Record Sum Spent on Lobbying in '05

Results of the lobbying disclosures for the first six months of 2005 are in at PoliticalMoneyLine, which tracks lobbying and campaign money: A record $1.2 billion (specifically, $1,164,586,968) was spent on lobbying Congress and the executive branch.
Wow! Over a full year that would be $2.4 billion. Divided by 435 Congressmen and 100 Senators, that comes to $4.5 million per elected official in Congress. And yet their salaries are only $162,000. No wonder there is so much corruption. Time to raise their salaries.
