The Case Against The Case Against Cognitive Enhancement

Usually when I disagree with something I can understand how the other person came to that conclusion and respect it. Every once in a while I find an argument so bad that I see no possible way how it could be correct from any angle and feel the need to utterly destroy it. Such a feeling came to me when reading the essay Cognitive Enhancing Drugs by Justin D. Barnard.

Fortunately for me, before I spent the time writing the response, I came across a refutation by Will Wilkinson that said everything I wanted to in a much more eloquent way.

The one thing I would add is that I have never understood the argument that cognitive enhancing drugs make us less human. I would argue the opposite, that I am much more alive and able to experience life to its fullest after ingesting a glass full of caffeine.
